Handheld Terminals

A handheld terminal is capable of recording data from 1D barcodes or QR codes via a built-in laser scanner and forwarding the collected data to the company's ERP system. But a simple barcode scanner can do that too, so why choose a handheld terminal?

The answer is simple - because the warehouse staff can update the status, orders and other information on site via the hand-held terminal's built-in processors and keyboard. Therefore, a handheld terminal scanner ensures a more efficient and flexible workflow in your warehouse.

A wireless handheld terminal runs real-time via a wireless network and is typically integrated directly into the company's ERP system. This means that quantity, status and orders are updated every time a warehouse employee picks and scans an item in the warehouse or in production. Thus, scanning with hand-held terminals ensures transparency, that bottlenecks are avoided, and that missing or misplaced goods are detected and reported earlier.

How to choose the right handheld terminal
Because we recommend a specific handheld terminal, we always make sure that the following is clarified:
• Operating system - should the handheld terminal run on Windows, Android or IOS?
• Cold / heat / dust - should the handheld terminal work in extreme conditions?
• Should the scanner / camera be able to reach up to 30 meters?
• Keyboard - alphabetical, numeric or with function keys?
• Should the handheld terminal be able to run on WLAN, eGPRS / GSM, 3G / 4G / 5G?
• Should the terminal also be able to function as a walkie-talkie?
• Should the terminal be prepared for pick by voice?
• Battery life - what are your specific needs?
• Should the terminal be integrated with C5, AX, NAV, SAP, IFS or other?

Handheld terminals for industry require a little extra
Working environments with high heat, a lot of dust and water or many minus degrees require extra solid equipment. Hand-held terminals designed for industry and cold storage are encapsulated and live up to the highest industry standards in terms of being able to withstand dust, frost, liquid and repeated falls on hard surfaces.

Based on our own and our customers' experiences with durability and reliability, we especially recommend handheld terminals from Honeywell, Opticon and Zebra.

Full integration with all ERP and financial systems
With a software-based integration program, integrating data from a handheld terminal with the company's ERP is no longer a lengthy, expensive or risky process. Typically it takes no more than three days and integration is possible for both Microsoft Dynamics AX / NAV / BC / 365 / CX5 as well as Uniconta, IBM, SAP, SAP Business One, Visma and Visma.net.

Free the IT department of service and support
Few IT departments have the time and technical insight to service, support and provide the necessary software and security updates. Therefore, we always recommend a mobile-device service agreement for companies with more than 10 units as well as for smaller companies without their own IT department. We recommend a service agreement from SOTI.

Independent advice and recommendations
From the outset, Codeex has chosen not to bind itself to specific suppliers of handheld terminals. We are therefore free to advise and recommend solutions and handheld terminals for your warehouse across all leading brands and functions.

When we recommend a handheld terminal for your warehouse, the focus is on technology and future-proofing - but to a large extent also on durability and operational stability. For hand-held terminals that are constantly being serviced or repaired, nothing is worth it - no matter how strong specs or a low price the hand-held terminals come with.
